Building the Vivino of Coffee – The Vision for The Baristapp

If you’re a wine enthusiast, you probably know Vivino. With over 70 million users, it’s become the go-to app for scanning wine labels, tracking your tastes, and discovering new bottles. It transformed how people explore wines, making knowledge accessible to everyone from casual sippers to expert wine collectors. As a specialty coffee lover, I kept asking myself: where’s the Vivino for coffee? I searched around. I tried different apps like Beanconqueror and went back to post-it notes.

But nothing quite fit what I was looking for: a modern design, intuitive way to catalog my beans, track my brews experiments & recipes, and understand my evolving coffee preferences from varieties to flavor notes. So I decided to build it myself.

Baristapp is my answer to that gap. Here’s the vision:

Scan a Coffee Bag, Save Every Detail

Just like Vivino lets you snap a photo of a wine label to unlock its story, Baristapp lets you scan your coffee bag and automatically extract all the key details with some help of AI: origin country, altitude, processing method, varieties, roast profile, and flavor notes. No more manually typing in information. No more forgetting which Ethiopian natural you loved from a few month back. One scan, and it’s in your library, well organized.

Log Your Brews, Drink Better Coffee

Coffee is a craft. The same beans can taste completely different depending on your grind size, dose, ratio, and extraction time. Baristapp lets you log every brew experiment, tracking the variables that matter so you can replicate your best shots and learn from the ones that didn’t quite hit. Over time, you build a personal brewing journal that helps you consistently make better shots.

Understand Your Tastes

Vivino shows you which grapes, regions, and styles you love. Baristapp does the same for coffee. Rate your beans and start discovering patterns: Do you prefer washed Ethiopians or natural Colombians? Are you drawn to fruity, floral notes or deep chocolate and almond? Baristapp helps you understand your taste and shows you helpful statistics. In the future, we’ll use your ratings and preferences to offer personalized suggestions, recommending beans and roasters that match your taste profile.

Building the World’s Largest Specialty Coffee Community

Vivino’s magic isn’t just in the app, it’s in the 70 million wine lovers sharing real reviews, photos, and insights.

That collective knowledge makes every scan more valuable. My vision for Baristapp is similar. Imagine a future where you can:

  • Learn from millions of coffee lovers sharing recipes, reviews, and tasting notes
  • Discover which roasters are trending in your area and search best rated beans worldwide by a combination of flavor notes and process.
  • See a “Match for You” score predicting whether you’ll love a particular bean
  • Follow baristas and coffee experts to discover new favorites and emerging new methods.

We’re not there yet, but that’s where we’re headed if you want to join us on the journey.
