My Top 10 Specialty Roasters in Switzerland

Living in Lausanne, I am lucky enough to be at the heart of a thriving coffee scene. While I’ve explored international giants like Bonanza, Onyx and La Cabra, here’s my take on the best Swiss Specialty Coffee Roasters.

From established names to niche micro-roasters, the Swiss specialty scene is punching way above its weight (no Switzerland is not just Nespresso land). Based on my personal rotation and plenty of espresso shots later, here is my definitive ranking of the best Swiss specialty roasters.

The Top 5: My Daily Drivers

1. Utopia Coffee

Utopia is my absolute go-to. Located in Gland, they offer a consistency that is rare to find: I have yet to be disappointed by a single bag. What makes them exciting (and occasionally unsettling!) is how quickly they rotate their selection. If you find a bean you love, buy it immediately, because it might be gone in two weeks.

  • The Standout: Their Nestor Lasso Sidra Honey from Colombia. Originally roasted for filter, I pulled it as an espresso after tasting it at the World of Coffee in Geneva. The rose flavors were absolutely mind-blowing and set a new high bar for my espresso expectations.

2. Roasticious

A more niche discovery found in a local Lausanne cafe called Bland. They roast on demand and handle some truly exceptional micro-lots. Their Quebreditas Sidra (Colombia) was top-notch, certainly a roaster to watch if you want something exclusive.

3. MUYU Coffee Roasters

I first encountered this micro-roaster at the Swiss Coffee Festival in Lausanne. They focus heavily on direct sourcing from Bolivia. While not every bag has been exactly to my personal taste, the flavor profiles they uncover are consistently interesting and high-quality. Super friendly couple with a cute coffee shop in Locarno as well.

4. Mame

Likely the most famous Swiss roaster on the international stage. The quality is exceptional, though the price point reflects their “establishment” status. They sit at number four only because I haven’t explored their full catalog as deeply as others, but they remain a gold standard.

5. The Good Life Coffee Roasters

Pioneers of the third-wave movement in the Lausanne area. The team is incredibly friendly and helped me start my specialty journey. While Utopia currently holds my heart for my daily rotation, The Good Life remains a local staple for high-quality beans.

10RoseZurichI’ve only tried one bag so far, but it definitely earned them a spot in the top 10.
